Best ice cream?
I think the best cone I ever had was two scoops of pistachio gelato from Festival Del Gelato in Florence, Italy. (Of course, it was on our honeymoon and everything seemed fabulous. Would it stand up? Seems like a research trip is neccessary, no?)
Around here, my favorite place is Rancatore's in Belmont; and Celebrity has the same soft-serve with crunch coat I grew up on (you know, that faux-peanuts-but-it's-actually-candy stuff).
You? Best local ice cream, best cone ever?

I'm partial to Rancatore's. They have a wide selection of flavors, very creamy and rich, and the help is always nice. I live only 5 minutes walk from there, so it's a constant temptation :-)

Hard to pin down, but I'd either go with a Peppermint Stick w/Jimmies I got at Brighams when I was a kid - first time with that combination and I loved it - or, similar to yours, a gellato I had in Rome (or, really, MANY gellatos I had in Rome - just delicious!)

Any flavor from Lizzy's on Moody Street in Waltham. My fave is strawberry.

You're all going in the wrong direction by heading over to Belmont. Skip down Washington Street to Cabot's and go old school. Keep it simple: chocolate with jimmies. mmmmmm.
...the best hot fudge sundae ever, best hot fudge, best ice cream, best whipped cream and cherry was at Bailey's. I remember going in to Downtown Crossing to see the animated figures and Santa in Jordan Marsh at Christmastime, and stopping at Bailey's on Tremont Street. I grew up in Wellesley, so their Bailey's was my usual treat - my brother was a firefighter, so my mom would take me to visit Guy at the firestation then stop at Bailey's on the way home. When David and I got together, we would spoon up the delights at the Belmont Bailey's - Mocha Lace ice cream was our favorite, and we'd usually pick up a little white almond bark on the way out. Sigh... How come they all closed?
To asuage my grief, I make David ride me out to Stow on 117 once or twice a year to Erikson's Dairy for some wintergreen chip ice cream, and occasional visits to Angelato in Belmont for some chocolate hazelnut gelato is like being back in Italia.
