2nd act in No Place for Hate controversy?

By H2otown - Posted on 11 September 2007

It feels like the 21st act, but hey.  Raffi sez:Life in the Armenian Diaspora: Boston Armenians Bringing the Heat Against the ADL

I knew there would be a second act in the ADL/Boston Armenian battle. And, it came in the form of another Abraham Foxman gem. The delusional ADL leader has basically retreated again on the Armenian Genocide issue in the form of accusing the Watertown/Boston area Armenians of targeting the ADL. Playing the victim card again, the ADL has sunk so low in the eyes of Jewish groups, cities and towns who currently sponsor the "No Place for Hate", and Armenian-Americans that he could not resist taking another shot at the issue.

"Our maintaining the equilibrium between two moral imperatives--concern for the wellbeing of Jewish communities and recognizing human injustice--was under attack."

Wait a minute. So if taking a stand against injustice has the potential to harm "Jewish communities," well, maybe it's not worthwhile? Whatever happened to "First they came for..."?

And what makes it worse is that Foxman criticized Pope John Paul II a few years back for his apology to Jews. He (Foxman) claimed that JPII apology was too generic and did not specifically condemn the Vatican’s lack of vocal opposition to Nazi policies.
He essentially said that any fear that the Vatican may have had about Hitler’s retaliation towards Catholics did not excuse the Vatican’s silence.

Apparently Foxman is willing to hold others to standards that he is not willing to meet himself.

What has the Pope(past Popes included) said about the genocide of Armenians? If nothing, then when will he?

... It is tantamount to poking your eye out. Uh, OK. If Abraham Foxman says it is a genocide, then he somehow puts the safety and well-being of Jews around the world in peril? Are we all idiots? So his position, which is the position of the ADL, an organization founded to fight for the rights of all people and make certain that another human genocide ever again despoils this earth lobs a softball at the first 20th century holocaust, isn't that saying it wasn't that bad? Don't you worry about it, Turkey, because it wasn't quite so horrific. It was only tantamount to horrific, only virtually a human tragedy, only almost what Mr. Hitler said about it. Who even remembers it? Just flick it off the ADL's back like a pesky gnat. ADL, wake up and get rid of this bozo. He has basically shellaced all American Jews with the same brush. You all just don't understand his position. It is not a holocaust if it is not convenient for all Jewish people for it to be a holocaust. Good grief. Lets get Elie Wiesel to look up a good word in his thesaurus, "tantamount", that's a good one! I actually have a better quote from Elie Wiesel, "...to remain silent and indifferent is the greatest sin of all..."

The key phrase is "cosquences of those (Turkish) actions".
Not the qualifier tantamount !!!!!

The word consequences removes the notion of deliberate intent.
Which has been Turkey's argument for decades.

They didn't mean to commit genocide, they were at war and ooops a few more people died than they intended.

Foxamn's statement says the same thing, except he managed to stick the word genocide in it so people think he's calling it a genocide.

It's like saying the consequences of a trainful of people being hurded into a room where toxic gas is released was tantamount to a holocaust. But the Nazi's didn't mean to commit a holocuast it was just a result of them repeatedly doing the aforementioned activity !!!!

Get it !!!!!!!!
